Last year was our first year trying out a Secrets property and we loved it so much we wanted to try another location. I did a lot of research to see what people said were the best Secrets resorts and the top 2 were the one we went to last year – Maroma Beach and the one we decided to try this year – Cap Cana.
I made a YouTube video with more info if you prefer videos.
Secrets Cap Cana is in the Dominican Republic. It was a 3 hour flight from Atlanta and a 20 min shuttle ride from the airport to the resort. I LOVE picking places that are a quick and easy transfer after you land.
We booked our transfer through Amstar and did a shared shuttle but ended up having the shuttle to ourselves which was lovely! We felt very safe the entire time.
Once we arrived at Secrets Cap Cana we were greeted at their beautiful lobby and a welcome drink – YAY for starting vacation out right.
We booked a preferred club level room last year and this year…and we think it was worth it both times. When you book the preferred club level at Secrets Cap Cana you get access to more restaurants for breakfast and lunch – and those restaurants were our favorites. You also get access to a preferred club only pool and side of the beach, which was nice when the main pool got too loud and rowdy. The other nice detail about a preferred club room is you get a beach tote so you don’t have to pack your own.
I will say I don’t think it’s worth booking a swim out room at Secrets Cap Cana because they didn’t have enough privacy. The swim out suites actually had conjoining pools to the preferred club so it wasn’t private at all. A swim out suite was definitely worth it at the Maroma Beach location though.
The resort had 6 restaurants and only 1 required a reservation. This is so nice compared to other resorts (like Sandals) where you feel rushed and pressured to get dinner reservations before they fill up.
We didn’t check out the spa or do any excursions because we weren’t there long enough to want a break from laying out in the sun. Our favorite activity is grabbing a spot with a good view and relaxing all day.
They also offer free activities like paddle boarding and kayaking.
Secrets Resorts do accept tips so definitely bring some cash. When you feel like you received exceptional service you can tip. We didn’t tip after every thing, only when we felt like it was worth it – like getting great service while laying out all day.
An FAQ I got a lot was if we liked the Maroma Beach or Cap Cana location better and I honestly can’t choose because they were so different but I would go back to either resort.
