You’ve probably wondered how to find a new job in 2019…that you’ll actually be happy with.

You probably think it’s not possible.

Well it is.

Here are 3 tips on how to find happiness in your next job.

1. Make a list of everything you enjoy about your current role or previous roles. Then update your resume and LinkedIn to only highlight those areas. You don’t need to let another company know you’re an all-star at admin work if you don’t want to continue doing admin work. Tell a prospective company what you’re great at AND what you enjoy doing. That’s what you want to get hired for.
2. Give yourself permission to explore a role unrelated to your experience. A fresh start at finding happiness in your career is a great thing. You’re scared. You’re telling yourself it’s risky. But spending 40 hours a week in a role you’re not happy with is more risky. It will impact your happiness outside of just those 40 hours. There has never been a better time for a fresh start.
3. Pick the role because of your prospective boss. Your boss dictates your happiness more than the words on your job description, cool office decor, and yes – even more than your salary. So when you’re evaluating the next role, pay close attention to the vibe you have with your prospective boss. I know this can be hard to tell in an interview. So come in with questions like “what kind of management style do you have” – “what characteristics would a successful team member have” – “what interests do you have outside of work.” You’re instincts will know if you vibe well with the person.

Above all else, don’t doubt yourself. Finding your next job may not happen as soon as you want it to but that doesn’t mean it’s because you’re not qualified or you’re doing something wrong. Remind yourself to be patient because everything happens for a reason.

You don’t want to rush a big decision like a career change.

You want it to feel like the right choice. That’s how you know you will be happy in your next role.
