There is a question I get asked a lot.
How do you have a full-time corporate job and a blog?
Finding a balance between celinekaye.com and my day job is all about prioritizing. I have to be willing to compromise on ideas I have for celinekaye.com – simply because I don’t have the time to execute them. An example of this is writing blog posts. I want to go into more detail about a variety of topics but writing and editing a post is usually done on the weekends – which is also consumed by house chores, tennis, or try-on sessions.
The biggest challenge is constantly posting content. All the Instagram educational articles say that posting constantly is key to growth. THIS IS HARD. I wish I could get a behind the scene videos of me bribing my husband to take a photo – EVERY DAY. When I launched celinekaye.com, I had three sessions with Ashley Faith Photography and that made my content planning so much easier! However, from a budget perspective that didn’t make sense to keep up with on a regular basis. Once I start monetizing celinekaye.com I will introduce a photographer back into the mix.
So now that you have the back story, here is my answer to how I have a day-job and keep up with celinekaye.com:
– Compromising is ok. If I can’t snap a photo every day, that’s ok! If I can’t find time to write a blog post, that’s ok! If I can’t execute on all my content ideas, that’s ok! I constantly remind myself that I have a full-time day job and celinekaye.com is my hobby that will grow at the pace I can handle.
– Stay organized. I strive to keep my personal computer, Dropbox, and RewardStyle account organized so I can easily find pictures and coinciding details of outfits. I am primarily running celinekaye.com off of my iphone so everything on the desktop needs to be accessible and organized to find on my iphone as well.
– Watching and learning. I learn by watching 4-5 of my favorite bloggers. I pay attention to when they post, what they post, and how they push out their content. I pick out strategies from each that I enjoy, put my personal touch on it, and I test it out with my audience to see what works.
– Sticking to who I am. This is incredibly important yet difficult. I am surprised at how much I have to remind myself to do that – but it really is difficult. Especially when I am watching a handful of other bloggers. I don’t want to be like them. I want to be Celine Kaye. And I have to remind myself of that. An example of this is that some of the bloggers I love to follow post outfits that are very expensive. I don’t want to do that. I want to post amazing content and pieces, at an attainable price. Every now and then it’s ok to splurge on a must-have piece but for the most part I am going to steer clear of places like revolve.com – even though they have serious swoon worthy pieces.
I hope this shed a little bit of light into what it’s like balancing a corporate career with celinekaye.com. Or if you’re a up and coming blogger as well, I hope you found this post helpful to the delicate balancing act of running a website, Instagram, and RewardStyle or ShopStyle Collective account.
