I bought my first house a few years ago and I had zero furniture to move in with – which was nice because I could start with a blank slate and make the house into the home I envisioned. But often times our visions tend to be a mix of styles and that’s ok! Here’s how to know where to start with your home décor.
- Pull inspiration images. This can be from your favorite Instagram accounts, Pinterest, or magazine. When you look at them side-by-side look for similarity’s in the pictures. That’s how you will know what you will love in your own home.
- Decide on colors. I noticed that I was always attracted to neutral tones. So that’s what I went with as my color pallet – Gray, cream, wood elements, and light green accents to give a pop of color every now and then. Plus, I love decorating for the holidays and these colors make it easy to throw in multi-colored holiday décor.
- Choose a style/theme. Here’s where it can get tricky – when you realize you like a few different décor styles. My inspiration pictures had an equal amount of farmhouse, modern, and craftsmen style. So instead of choosing just one I went with a mixture. That’s the best part about styling – mix and match to create the look you want in your home!
I ended up with what I call a modern farmhouse. It has a lot of farmhouse elements but modern details are dropped in to satisfy that style for me. When it’s all within the same color pallet the styles can blend together nicely!
My favorite home décor stores that are super budget friendly are Homegoods, Hobby Lobby, and Wayfair. They offer a large selection of so many styles!
